在他从溺水中恢复过来之后，他在一块石头上写下：“今天我最好的朋友救了我一命”。

那个打了他而后又救了他的朋友问他：“我伤害你之后你记在了沙子上，而现在你记在了石头上，为什么呢？”

另一个朋友回答说：“当有人伤害了我们的时候，我们应当在沙子上写下，这样宽恕的风就能把它抹掉。但当有人帮助了我们的时候，我们就应当铭刻于没有风可以抹掉的石头上。”

要学会把自己受的伤害记在沙子上，把自己得的恩惠记在石头上。

The story goes that two friends were walking through the desert. During
some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped
the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in
the sand: “Today my best friend slapped me in the face.”

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to
take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and
started drowning, but the friend saved him.

After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: “Today my best friend saved my life.”

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After
I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone. Why?”

The other friend replied: “When someone hurts us we should write it
down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when
someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where
no wind can ever erase it.”

另外一个友人回道：“当有人伤害我们的时候，我们应该把不好的事情写在沙上，这样宽恕就会随风而吹走伤害之痛。相反，当有人对我们做了好的事情，我们就要把这些写在石头上，让它永远铭刻在我们心里”。
