    Amoy这是闽南语的音译，而且Amoy这个名字已经使用了几百年了。早在十五世纪末的时候，远洋航行的葡萄牙人来到了厦门，并且用闽南语的葡萄牙语来称当地为Amoy。

    厦门市由厦门本岛、鼓浪屿及其众多小岛屿和同安、集美、海沧、翔安等组成，陆地面积1699.39平方公里，海域面积约390多平方公里。
